Berkley, Michigan
Economic Development Strategy

Berkley is a fully built-out community of 15,352 residents in Oakland County — walkable, neighborhood-centered, and proud of it. In recent years the city has seen a meaningful uptick in residential and commercial redevelopment, and city leaders recognized the moment as an opportunity to move from reactive to strategic. Berkley engaged Better City to develop a comprehensive Economic Development Strategy to guide how the city attracts investment, retains businesses, and strengthens its economic corridors for the years ahead.

Better City is currently working with Berkley to assess the city’s local assets, regional position, and redevelopment opportunities — with a particular focus on supporting entrepreneurs, small businesses, and second-stage companies along its commercial corridors. The strategy connects to Berkley’s existing master plan, capital improvements plan, and the Downtown Development Authority’s Strategic Plan, ensuring that economic development goals are aligned across the city’s planning framework and built for real implementation.
