2026-2030 Comprehensive Economic
Development Strategy
This project delivers a strategic framework for economic growth in Southwest New Mexico through the 2026–2030 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). Focused on Catron, Grant, Hidalgo, and Luna counties, the plan takes a grounded, data-informed approach to addressing regional challenges such as population loss, workforce constraints, limited housing, and infrastructure needs. At the same time, it identifies opportunities to build on the region’s strengths—including natural resources, transportation corridors, and emerging industries—to support long-term economic stability and growth.
- Defines six strategic priorities centered on infrastructure, workforce, housing, economic diversification, and public sector capacity
- Leverages community engagement and regional analysis to ensure the strategy reflects local needs and realities
- Highlights key growth sectors such as outdoor recreation, energy, agriculture, and manufacturing
- Integrates resilience planning and sustainability considerations into economic development efforts
- Establishes clear benchmarks and tracking tools to measure progress over time
Together, these elements create a practical and adaptable roadmap for Southwest New Mexico’s future. The strategy emphasizes coordination across communities and sectors, ensuring that growth efforts are not only effective but also aligned with the region’s unique identity and long-term priorities.
